Martha's Dare inspiring you to achieve your dreams

Dream it. Plan it. Do it.

Dare: I Dare you to take an hour of your time to dream !!

Give yourself an hour or two in a quiet place and think out what you want your life to look like in 5 years. If you were sitting down with an old friend 5 years from now, what stories would you want to tell ? What adventures would you want to have taken ? What would your life look like. Don’t over think it, just brainstorm everything that you might want to do. Think about what goals you have in your career, life adventures, possessions and personal goals. Don’t forget to write them down !!!

Here are some ideas to get you going…..
In your career – think about what skills you would like to have. What stories would you like to tell ? For Example: Communication Skills, Influencing, Speak at a Conference, Take a course in Innovation, learn about Canadian Industry.

Life Adventures – trips you would like to take, athletic goals, or experiences. For Example: Do a triathlon, Travel to Africa, Hike in Peru, drive across the country, learn to surf.

Possessions – What do you want to own ? Note, your goal could be nothing, but what does it look like. For Example: House. Bike. 100k in savings. Sports Care. Real Car.

Personal Goals – What are some things specifically about you. For example: Get healthy. Exercise 3 times a week. Start dating. Get Married. Have children.

It is all of these things TOGETHER that make up your LIFE !!!

Outcome: I have given myself persmission to dream, to go for it, and to put out there the life I want to lead.

What did it look like for me ?! When I was 26, I dreamt that at 31 I would be sitting on my house’s back deck, looking stylish, sipping some delicious red wine (and be able to comment intelligently about it) while looking out at a colourful well maintained garden. Along the way I hoped to travel to Africa, improve my communications skills, compete in my first traithlon, and be dating.

As a result of putting my dreams out there, writing them down, and then using some fun ways of approaching them, I am happy to report that I met each one of these goals. Had I not taken the time to ask myself – what does life look like in 5 years, and written them down, would I have gotten there at all ? Would I have been able to be clear with myself on what would make me happy ?? I don’t think so. How do you know you are living your dream if you don’t take an hour to dream it up ??
