Martha's Dare inspiring you to achieve your dreams

Design your life to have it all!

How would you design the life you love, and what BIG decision do you need to make to make it a reality?

On April 28th, 2012 I married the man of my dreams. While on our honeymoon in Belize we decided to take design our life so that we could do it all. What does this look like ? It meant having a family, growing veggies in our own garden, biking the country roads multiple times a week, travelling the world, doing work that we love no matter what the pay, eating organic and being as healthy as possible, and making decisions each day that enrich our lives with no financial stress.

As we started evaluated the possibilities of making this life a reality (mint.com is great for this) we realized that we couldn’t afford to do it living in Toronto. We needed to make some bold moves all in the quest to have it all.

We figured out how much we could afford to pay for a home and live, and started to look at homes outside of Toronto. This was a BIG move for me, I am a city girl, who prides herself in walking everywhere. Would I survive in the country ? We wanted somewhere with sense of community, and strong spirit. We found Guelph has the highest percentage of volunteers in Canada (67% of residents volunteer), has the lowest crime rate in Canada, and has the lowest unemployment in Ontario. What we love about it is that it is Canada’s agricultural hub (read lots of fresh food from local farmers), is only an hour from Toronto, and works hard to protect its community culture. It happens to also be one of Canada’s hot spots for long distance running, and have a very active triathlon club. It is also nicely situated close to Waterloo, Canada’s tech hub. All in all, a perfect place for Martha and Mark.

So within a month of returning from Belize and our honeymoon, we bought a house, and moved. We now live in a beautiful home, walking distance to downtown Guelph, with a gorgeous backyard, and we wake up to the birds singing each day. We have now designed our lives so that we can take the BIGGER leaps. We know a total of three people here and get funny looks when people ask why we moved here. But we know, this is but one step in our life journey to live the life we love. We often joke that this is our “high risk house!” You just wait and see!
